Many questions have been raised regarding CAZA’s role in the Government of Alberta’s decision to suspend the operation of a facility near Three Hills, Alberta known as Guzoo. 

In April 2011 CAZA was contracted by the Government of Alber­ta to conduct an independent, objective, professional assessment of all aspects of the facility’s operations based upon the requirements of the Alberta Zoo Standards. CAZA was to provide a written report summarizing the outcome of the  review as well as the general health of the animals at the facility.

Montreal Ecomuseum Zoo Wins Top National Award

Montreal’s Ecomuseum Zoo has been awarded the top prize for outstanding achievement among Canada’s accredited zoos and aquariums for its long-term research and conservation program for the protection of reptiles and amphibians in the province of Quebec.

Parks Canada Celebrates 100th birthday!

May 19, 2011 marks the 100th birthday of the establishment of Parks Canada – the world’s first national park service. Parks Canada now manages one of the most extensive networks of protected national heritage places in the world, a growing collection of 167 national historic sites, 42 national parks and 4 national marine conservation areas.

Ottawa, May 20 – Canada’s accredited zoos and aquariums are launching a national awareness campaign to engage Canadians in supporting the preservation of biodiversity in our Arctic. May 22nd is the International Day of Biodiversity and many zoos and aquariums are holding special events to mark the occasion.
