Why you should get involved
- After surviving for 360 million years, one-third to one-half of all amphibian species are in danger of becoming extinct ... potentially the single largest disappearance of a species since the dinosaurs.
- Amphibians matter. They play a critical role in the ecosystem as both predator and prey, they perform invertebrate pest control important to agricultural efforts, and their skin has substances that offer promising medical cures for humans. .
- This is the first truly global conservation initiative to save endangered animals.
- The success of this global collaboration can lay the groundwork for future conservation efforts.
- The world must not stand by and watch hundreds of these exquisite species become extinct in our lifetime. If we do not respond immediately and on an unprecedented scale, much of an entire vertebrate class will be lost, and we will have failed in our most basic conservation mission.
- The efforts of the Amphibian Ark will demonstrate to people around the world what can be accomplished by working together for a common cause.
